    Nippon Steel aims to spend $14B on US Steel, including $4B for new mill - Reuters

    Nippon Steel perst er alles uit om Trump zijn mening over de overname van US Steel door Nippon Steel te wijzigen.

    Ik hoop dat Nippon Steel US Steel mag overnemen zodat arcelormittal eindelijk alleen voort kan doen.

    Arcelormittal zal dan de joint venture van calvert voor 1 dollar in handen krijgen en nog wat andere financiële middelen, dan kan arcelormittal eindelijk alleen voort en zal dan volgens mij snel beslissen om de tweede EAF furnace te bouwen die minder zal kosten dan de huidige.

    Tegen 21 mei deadline voor de overname.

    ASML sterkste daler.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Op Wall Street zijn woensdag alle acht AEX-genoteerde fondsen ten opzichte van het slot in Amsterdam lager gesloten. ASML was met een verlies van 2,1 procent de sterkste daler. ING en Unilever wisten beide de verliezen te beperken tot 0,2 procent.

    Als er direct met het witte huis is onderhandelt over die extra 4 miljard dollar investeringen in US Steel door Nippon Steel zie ik die overname wel in orde komen en dus positief gegeven voor arcelormittal.

    US Steel (NYSE:X) dropped 1.2% amid a report about the national security review of its planned sale to Nippon Seel (OTCPK:NPSCY).

    The CFIUS review of the deal expires on Wednesday and the panel at some point is expected to provide President Trump with all relevant information, including new investment promises, but not a recommendation on whether to block it, according to an Axios report on Tuesday, which cited a person familiar with the matter. It appears the Commerce, not Treasury, has been leading the discussions about the combination.

    The latest update comes after Reuters reported on Monday that that Nippon Steel plans to spend $14 billion on US Steel's operations, including up to $4B in a new steel mill if the Trump administration approves the Japanese company's takeover bid.

    The increased spending plan came from direct negotiations with the White House, according to the Axios report.

    The $14 billion planned sale of US Steel (NYSE:X) was delayed in January when former President Joe Biden blocked the combination on national security grounds. President Trump began his term noting that he "wouldn't mind" if Nippon Steel (OTCPK:NPSCY) took a minority stake in US Steel (NYSE:X) but has repeatedly said a foreign company should not control US Steel (NYSE:X).

    Nippon Steel (OTCPK:NPSCY) (OTCPK:NISTF) remains committed to acquiring a full stake in US Steel (NYSE:X), Vice Chairman Takahiro Mori told Reuters on Tuesday, adding that the company is seeking a meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent to clarify President Trump's stance on the deal.

    The companies face a May 21 deadline for the completion of a renewed national security review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. of the proposed $15B merger.

    "Our intention to pursue a full buyout remains unchanged," Mori said, and "this deal will make US Steel and the United States stronger."

    But "there is no free technology," Mori said, with only full ownership allowing Nippon Steel (OTCPK:NPSCY) (OTCPK:NISTF) to share its core technology and strengthen US Steel (NYSE:X), not through a joint venture.

    Reuters reported this week that Nippon Steel (OTCPK:NPSCY) (OTCPK:NISTF) plans to invest $14B in US Steel's (X) operations, including up to $4B in a new mill, if the Trump administration approves its bid.

    Mori declined to comment on details of the CFIUS talks, but said any increase in investment would be tied to higher returns and would not strain the company's finances.

    Mondiale staalproductie licht gedaald

    In april.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De mondiale staalproductie is in april weer gedaald, na een opleving in maart. Dit bleek donderdag uit cijfers van brancheorganisatie World Steel Association.

    In totaal produceerden de 69 staalproducerende landen vorige maand 155,7 miljoen ton staal, wat 0,3 procent minder was dan in april een jaar geleden.

    In maart steeg de staalproductie nog met circa 3 procent, opverend na dalingen in januari en februari.

    In de eerste vier maanden van dit jaar liep de productie met 0,4 procent terug.

    In China, wereldwijd verreweg de grootste fabrikant van staal, maakte de productie in april een pas op de plaats. In de eerste vier maanden van dit jaar was er sprake van een kleine productiestijging van 0,4 procent.

    In Duitsland daalde de productie in april met 10,1 procent op jaarbasis. Daarmee was de krimp wel kleiner dan in maart.

    In de Europese Unie was er sprake van een daling van 2,6 procent, na een minieme productiestijging in maart.

    In de VS daalde de productie vorige maand met 0,3 procent en in Japan was er een krimp van 6,4 procent, flink meer dan de afname in maart.
