    Simpel Nederlands.

    hoop doet leven

However, negotiations with Apple were temporarily halted by the entry
of Intel. Apple CEO Tim Cook had entered into negotiations with Intel. Morris Chang flew to Silicon Valley to meet Tim Cook in person. At this meeting, CEO Tim Cook said something peculiar: "They [Intel] are clumsy at foundry." Sure enough, the negotiations between Apple and
Intel broke down shortly after, and Apple chose TSMC. Losing Apple at that time was a major blunder that accelerated Intel's decline. Conversely, by securing Apple, TSMC solidified its status as the absolute powerhouse in the foundry business. Intel's management at the time later stated that they broke off negotiations because they felt Apple
was offering too low a price. Morris Chang puts it this way: "It's in the same vein as what Tim Cook told me: 'Intel is clumsy at foundry? Not accepting a price that the customer will accept is the same as being clumsy at foundry. TSMC has the ability to make a decent profit at a price the customer can
    accept."

Intel’s 18-Month Deadline to Land Major Customer for 14A Node
    www.webpronews.com/intels-18-month-de...

Intel is approaching a critical inflection point in its foundry strategy. Analysts warn the company has just 18 months to secure a major external customer for its next-generation 14A process node—expected to enter production by 2028–2029—or risk abandoning its most advanced chipmaking ambitions.
The 14A node, built on high-numerical aperture EUV and targeting sub-2nm geometries, follows Intel’s 18A process, set to ramp later this year. Without customer commitments, analysts suggest the economics of continuing development become unsustainable.
Notably, Bernstein’s Stacy Rasgon cautioned that Intel’s viability as a leading-edge manufacturer hinges on landing a high-profile client soon. Despite reported interest from Apple and NVIDIA (Digitimes), formal commitments remain uncertain.
Intel’s recent layoffs, canceled Germany fab project, and potential CPU outsourcing to TSMC’s N2 (as reported by PC Gamer) add further pressure.
The next 18 months will be decisive. Success could redefine Intel’s IDM 2.0 strategy. Failure may force a strategic retreat—and shift the balance of chip manufacturing further toward TSMC and Samsung Electronics.

Een déjà vu. Is toch al eens geopperd en geeist?
    Zou het toch, dan?

It’s reported that the U.S. has demanded that if Taiwan wants the same 15% tariff benefits as Japan and South Korea, TSMC must either acquire a 49% stake in Intel or make an additional investment of $400 billion in the U.S.

Tariff problem card accumulation 1/Taiwan's trade deficit with the United States exceeds that of Japan and South Korea. It is said that Trump only gives two ways to solve the problem.

A big boss in the electronics industry told this magazine that it was not surprising that Taiwan and the United States got 20% of the results of the recipar-to-peer tariff negotiations, because Taiwan's trade deficit with the United States last year was higher than that of Japan and South Korea, which shows that Trump is merciless about tariffs. People familiar with the matter revealed that if Taiwan wants to win the same 15% reciprocal tariff as Japan and South Korea, Trump has put up on two conditions, one is that TSMC will take a 49% stake in Intel, and the other is to invest another 400 billion US dollars. However, this is a very difficult requirement for TSMC Chairman Wei Zhejia.

    Niet goed...

Intel’s credit rating was downgraded to BBB from BBB+ by Fitch, two notches shy of junk status, Reuters reports, following similar downgrades by S&P Global (December 2024) and Moody’s (August 2024). Fitch said Intel faces a “more challenging demand environment” but applauded its pivot to “a more nuanced foundry investment strategy” which boosts free cash flow.

U.S. President Trump stated in an interview with CNBC on the 5th that new tariffs on semiconductors and chips will be announced as early as next week. Additionally, he once again mentioned TSMC’s investment plan to establish a factory in Arizona, stating that TSMC is expected to invest $300 billion (approximately NT$8.97 trillion) in the U.S.
In a phone interview with CNBC on the 5th, Trump said, “We will announce policies regarding semiconductors and chips, which is a separate category because we want these things to be made in America.” He added that this news will be announced next week.

En die zin: "we want these things to be made in America".

Lip-Bu Tan was daar ooit CEO! :/
Yep.

    TRUMP ON TARIFFS:

    - SAYS U.S. WILL IMPOSE “VERY LARGE TARIFF” ON CHIPS AND SEMICONDUCTORS
WE WILL BE PUTTING IN 100% TARIFF ON ALL CHIPS
NOTES THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR COMPANIES BUILDING OR COMMITTING INVESTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES

    - $AAPL AND $NVDA WILL AVOID TARIFFS THANKS TO U.S. INVESTMENTS

    - INTEL WAS TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS... AND IT ALL WENT TO TAIWAN

    - I will put a tariff of 100 percent on semiconductors. But he said that if a company commits to building in the United States, it will be spared. "If you say you're building and you don't build, we go back and we add it up."
